چکیده

As methodologies and tools for chip-level design mature, design e ort becomes focused on higher abstraction levels. Presently, much e ort is focused on system-level design, where the key tasks include system component allocation, functional partitioning and transformation, and coarse estimation. However, commonly-used internal formats of functionality, such as the control-data ow graph, are too ne-grained for the system level. We introduce a more abstract format, and we demonstrate its order-of-magnitude more e cient support of system design tasks and its support of practical designer interaction. The format is used by the SpecSyn system design environment, and can be extended to handle many new system design problems.

Transformations in High-level Synthesis: Formal Speciication and Eecient Mechanical Veriication

Dependency graphs are used to model data and control ow in hardware and software design. In high-level synthesis of hardware, optimization and re nement transformations are used to transform dependency-graph-based speci cations at the behavior level to dependency-graph-based implementations at the register-transfer level. Registertransfer-level implementations are mapped to gate-level hardware ...

Transformations on Dependency Graphs :

Dependency graphs are used to model data and control ow in hardware and software design. In a transformational design approach, optimization and re nement transformations are used to transform dependency-graph-based speci cations at higher abstraction levels to those at lower abstraction levels. In this dissertation, we investigate the formal speci cation and mechanical veri cation of transform...

On Deriving Equivalent Architecture Model from System Speci cation

| This paper presents a formal approach to correctly re ne a system speci cation to an architecture model. The tasks in the system speci cation are distributed onto components of the system architecture to derive the architecture model. We present this re nement step and use formalisms to prove that the derived architecture model is equivalent to the speci cation. This approach aims at solving ...

Sequential - System Factorization

The success of high-level synthesis methods in reducing design time and formal veri cation methods in reducing design errors in digital VLSI circuits have opened the way to system-level synthesis and veri cation. Derivation is a form of formal veri cation that deals with correct-by-construction reasoning. A set of equivalence preserving transformations are used to derive an implementation from ...

Raising the level of abstraction: A signal processing system design course

Signal processing systems are inherently heterogeneous. They often contain a mixture of ltering, communication, and control algorithms implemented by a variety of technologies such as digital hardware, software, and analog circuits. Modern system-level design manages heterogeneity by rst decoupling speci cation from implementation and then decomposing the speci cation into a hierarchy of simple...
